December 1 2013: India's Mars probe Mangalyaan (MOM, Mars Orbiter Mission) started its course to Mars, escaping earth's gravitational field. Indian Space Reasearch Organisation's (ISRO) MOM mission statement gives progress as

" Trans Mars Injection (TMI) operations completed successfully. The liquid engine burn time was 1328.89 sec and the imparted incremental velocity was 647.96 m/sec."

means Mangalyaan has started its journey towards Mars. The mars probe need to travel a distance of 480 million miles (780 million kilometers) before reaching Mars.It is expected to reach Mars by 24 September 2014.
